Role Summary

The Food Technologist is responsible for developing, testing, standardising, and improving food products while ensuring food safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and halal standards. This role bridges product innovation with commercial scalability.


Key Responsibilities

Product Development & R&D

  • Develop new food products, recipes, and formulations based on business objectives.

  • Conduct trials, sensory evaluation, shelf-life testing, and optimisation.

  • Modify existing products to improve taste, texture, nutrition, cost, or shelf stability.

  • Scale recipes from kitchen to pilot/production level.

Food Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, MeSTI where applicable).

  • Establish and maintain SOPs for production, handling, storage, and hygiene.

  • Conduct quality checks on raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods.

  • Investigate and resolve quality or contamination issues.

Halal & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure products comply with halal requirements (JAKIM/halal certification standards).

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies (MOH, JAKIM, local councils) when required.

  • Prepare and maintain documentation for product registration, labelling, and audits.

  • Ensure ingredient sourcing meets regulatory and halal standards.

Production & Operations Support

  • Work closely with production teams to ensure consistency and efficiency.

  • Optimise processes to reduce waste and improve yield.

  • Support equipment selection and process improvements.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed formulation records, test results, SOPs, and compliance files.

  • Prepare technical reports for management and audits.


Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, or related field.

  • Experience in food manufacturing, R&D, or QA/QC (preferred).

  • Strong understanding of food safety systems and halal compliance.

  • Familiar with Malaysian food regulations and labelling requirements.

  • Detail-oriented, organised, and able to work independently.

  • Strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
